RIO DE JANEIRO 2022

Rio de Janeiro, in full Cidade de São Sebastião do Rio de Janeiro, by name Rio, city and port, capital of the State of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. It is located on the Atlantic Ocean, in the southeastern part of the tropical zone of South America, and is widely recognized as one of the world’s most beautiful and interesting urban centers.

The name was given to the city’s original site by Portuguese navigators who arrived on January 1, 1502, and mistook the entrance of the bay for the mouth of a river (rio is the Portuguese word for “river” and janeiro the word for “January”: “January River”). When the foundations of the future town were laid in 1565, it was named Cidade de São Sebastião do Rio de Janeiro (“City of St. Sebastian of Rio de Janeiro”) for both São Sebastião and Dom Sebastião, king of  Portugal.

Rio de Janeiro is a vibrant and welcoming city for its colonization and influence of different native and European immigrants, who have left their indelible mark on gastronomy, music and architecture. Visiting Rio is to be dazzled with unparalleled beauty in perfect harmony with nature, research centers and universities. Known as the “Marvelous City”, Rio de Janeiro offers attractions that have rendered the city its international fame.

Beautiful nature with the largest urban forest in the world, 2 bays, lagoons, 90 Km of beaches and mountains. One of the main cultural capitals of Brazil - museums, cultural centers, historical buildings, musical events, movies, theatres. Great choice of restaurants, shopping malls, tourist sights.

The climate in Rio de Janeiro is the tropical Atlantic, with local variations due to differences in altitude, vegetation and proximity to the ocean. Because it is a coastal city, the effect of salt spray is noticeable, translating into relatively low thermal amplitudes.
